Clinical Consultation

Weekly clinical consultation for local and licensed mental-health professionals

Why am I doing this?

I’m passionate about helping all therapists (especially those who don’t specialize in sex and relationships) to feel more confident and knowledgeable about this integral aspect of all of our clients’ lives.

Have there been moments in your practice when you hit a wall and kind of thought, “Uh… eek… ACK!” and maybe quickly changed the subject?  Or maybe you gave it a whirl and just ended up feeling like you didn’t do the best you could in that moment?

Don’t worry, I’ve got you!

Lots of therapists lose business because their clients don’t think they’re open about sex and relationships – even though they are! – I get a lot of clients that way, by the way – and I’d like to help you hang on to them and build on the rapport and trust you’ve worked so hard to grow.

This weekly consultation group will help you circle back around and feel confident and relaxed the next time something pops up in session that would otherwise make you feel out of your element.

Who is this group for?

This consultation group is for all therapists who would like a little extra insight, support, and guidance when it comes to the topics of sex, non-monogamy, kink, BDSM, and all the other stuff related to sexuality and relationships.

You’re already a thoughtful, sensitive clinician who cares a lot about your clients, and maybe you specialize in eating disorders – or grief or anxiety or depression, etc.  You feel confident when your niche is the focus of your session, but you begin to feel a whole lot less confident when sex is brought up.

Or…

Maybe you love talking about sex and relationships, but your other consultation group doesn’t quite seem to have the depth of knowledge you need and crave for your practice.

If you are either of these kinds of therapist, then this group is for you!  I’ll hear your case and concerns and we’ll work through the issues in a way that helps you feel knowledgeable and supported without making you feel like you’re out of touch.

This group is NOT for you if…

  • you want to stick to the topic that’s advertised on your website (and sex isn’t it)
  • you think that clients should only talk about sex and relationships with a “sex therapist” (and that isn’t you)
  • you don’t think you need the additional support about this stuff because you’ve already got some (good for you!)

What’s the difference between this and the free Sex-Positive Discussion group I run every month?

The free monthly meeting is fun and relaxed at a local coffee shop.  I invite lots of professionals from other fields whose experiences with clients are different from a counselor’s, and while it’s helpful to see other perspectives, being in a group of other clinicians let’s us address our unique challenges that we can’t exactly talk about in public.

The consultation group…
  • can be written off as a professional growth expense on your taxes
  • has a private meeting place and is confidential
  • is closed to non-therapists and -counselors
  • will include in-depth case studies
  • focuses on personal attention and professional growth
  • meets weekly

How does it work?

Email me if you’re interested in attending and I’ll send you my paperwork (cancellation policy, payment info, and confidentiality agreement).  Just like with our clients, accountability is a huge part of growth and focus.  No-shows and late-cancellation fees will apply to the group.

What if I can’t come on Thursdays?

If Thursdays are just the worst day ever to try and get your questions answered, I’m available for case consultations, as well.  Fee is $50 (for interns and associates) and $100 (for fully licensed professionals) for a 30 minute phone call, and we’ll have to get all the paperwork sorted first just like if you attended the group.

How much does it cost?

For 1.5 hour group consultation, fee for fully licensed clinicians is $100; for interns and associates fee is $50.

What time and where?

Group is from 8 – 9:30 am on every Thursday.  Yes, I know 8 am is early, but that’s precisely why I chose it.  Few of us see clients that early and ending on the half hour will give everyone the chance to get to their offices by 10.  I never understood why consultation groups were held during prime client-seeing times so I definitely don’t want to be guilty of that now!

We’ll meet at my office at 10th and West Ave.

::

I’m super pumped about offering support and education to therapists all over town.  You guys do such amazing, important work and I would love to be a part of your support system that helps you retain clients and feel your most confident.  Therapists who want to be their absolute best in session and work with the whole client no matter what their specialties may be are who I want to work with.  Is that you?

I look forward to hearing from you!
Cheers,
Jessica
PS: Do you know a colleague who’d be interested in attending?  If so, please feel free to pass this link along to them!
